I was born in a small town in the winter of Hyul 5.  You know the small kind of town where everyone knows each other.  Well, I was born into a small family where my dad was a merchant and my mom stayed at home to take care of us.  Every night, the three of us would sit down and mom, or dad, would read me a story, acting the parts out.  There were all sorts of stories ranging from lost princesses who get saved by a knight, to a day when everyone rode on turtles, and stories about people that were Buddhist.  Even though I really liked the turtle story, the Buddhist stories just captivated me.  I told my ma that one day I want to be just like a Buddhist.  It was weird because every time I mentioned that my mom and dad gave a funny look to each other.  After a while I stopped mentioning how cool it would be to be a Buddhist.
As I got older my desire became greater and greater.  I knew that talking to my parents would only distress them, but I knew that some one as great as a Buddhist had to be real and not just a story.  I went to the library, pretending to look up something for school, and I searched the shelves for anything with information about them.  I searched for hours and hours until I almost gave up.  I told my self that I am going to close my eyes and pick up one more book.  When I opened my eyes I saw that the book that I was pointing to was called the wandering monk.  I thought that monks had nothing to do with the Buddhist but I could not help the feeling that I got from it.  I read through the book with thirst and I did not stop reading after the first page.  Before I knew it, it was dark out and I should have been home hours ago.
I went hope to my worried parents and told them that I wanted to take a journey to become a monk.  My mom and dad, knowing that this day would come, sat me down and told me something that I never knew before.  My mom's best friend when she was little was a monk.  Her friend told my mom that she was to become a monk and that she would be gone for a little while to train with them.  My mom told me that she has never heard from her again.  The reason they had not wanted me to join is because they did not want me to leave them, for I was an only child and my mom could not have anymore kids.  I promised my parents that I would come back and visit, no matter what, but this was something that I really wanted to do.  My mom cried but her and my dad wished me well.  That night before I went to sleep I wrote a letter to the monks:
My name is GlimmerLight and I am interested in joining the monks.  I am of standard height, have big blue eyes, and red hair.  I am very eager to learn the way of the monks, as it has captivated me since I was little.  If you can please tell me how I can join you, I would be ready to start learning as soon as you tell me how.  Thank you very much.
Yours Sincerely,
GlimmerLight
