I grew up in a small village in the island country of Ilbon that had countless rivers flowing through it's fertile soil which made for excellent farm country. My family was not wealthy, but we all worked hard to earn everything we had, and of course enjoyed the company of our community.  When I was very young, I could not understand how my parents could be so patient to sew and tend to each seed during the planing season, and then check every single plant in the field when they began sprouting.  As soon as I was strong enough to carry a watering can, I helped out as much as I could. I suppose this is where my intrigue for the element water originated.  Pooring down a clear liquid on the various plants that helped them grow was amazing.  Water is able to flow around all of the barriers that are in it's way; I also try to be this flexible by not letting obstructions deter me from my path. During the spring seasons, the melting mountain waters always seem to find their way through the fields to the sea; even if I cannot see the path ahead of me, I know I will find my way.

I spent much of my free time meditating on a bridge residing over one of the streams near my house. The relaxing sounds of the flowing waters that echoed under the bridge helped let my mind concentrate. When the bridge began to deteriorate after time from the changing seasons, I would always bring my tools and repair it to its original splendor.  I became rather proficient at fixing bridges, and the villagers would always come to me when they needed my expertise. And after many years, people in the area started calling me the keeper of the bridges which later became the title “Bridgekeeper.”

Being able to pass on knowledge has always been important to me. I taught simple meditation techniques to the curious villagers on my bridge, but later after I began studying with the Monks, I was able to share The Four Noble Truths, and The Eightfold Path with all who wanted to hear.  When I was asked to become a guide of the Monk path, I was ecstatic since I would be able to officially teach others about a subject I love. Teaching does not only pass from teacher to student, but I also learn much from my students. Since Ilbon's doors are closed to our boarders, I have not been able to see my friends, family, and meditation spot in many years. Fortunately though, I have made new friends, and I have a new family right here in Koguryo. The Monk path has been there for me every since I was walked back in Yuri 53.
