"My history, you say? Geesh.. where should I start.."

I grew up right outside a small, young community on the coast of Shilla. Although poor, the town was always booming with business. Like all towns, there was your high-class people, middle-class, and what happened to be the majority of my town, the lower-class. I had lived under the roof of my drunkard father, whom constructed fishing boats for a living. Considering we were right on the coast, he didn't do bad as a businessman but his alcoholism ultimately led to his downfall. I had never met my mother, but from what my father told me she was a very beautiful and intelligent woman, 'said I looked a lot like her. She passed away when I came into this world.

With little guidance growing up, I made use of my surroundings and learned to fend for myself. I ran away from home when I was young and taught myself the value of a coin. I had to figure out a way to have a steady income of currency in order to feed and clothe myself. The first place I went to was the markets. I always remembered looking up to the tall, well-dressed and majestic-looking merchants that always seemed to have a few extra coins to throw around. I started taking notice to their ways of trade and began bartering items, that is, buying items for low amounts of coins and reselling them for a profit. I always had more money than most of my friends, mainly because all that's all I was ever intersted in.

I kept myself out of trouble, I didn't rip anybody off or scam citizens, because I saw how scum like that would end up in the long run; besides, I wanted to maintain a certain level of respect on the streets. The most important thing I learned about making money wasn't about giving good deals. It was about selling yourself. If you look like a clean, honest fellow and could flatter the customers with your charm, you'd be sure to make a few extra coins in most cases. Whenever I was in the markets working I never dressed fancy. I looked good, but not too good. Afterall, who would you make a purchase from first, the man who looks lavished in his riches or the man who looks  like he's just out there trying to make a living?

Business was great for a while, I was quite the town tradesman. When I was in the markets I would dress casual, and when I had to represent myself at a moment of importance I would wear my fancy robes and golden rings. It was going good, but not good enough for me. I wanted to find myself dressing fancier more often and casual less. Of course, it wasn't all about the gold.. I remained a humble citizen and always offered a helping hand to anyone in need. But as time passed by, I sought ways to increase my income. Passing the library on my way out of the market one evening, I ran into a group of tradesman that were gloating about treasures they found and sold which made them millionaires. I hadn't recognized these men, they looked like they were from out of town so naturally, I kept to myself and walked by them.

"Hey, kid!", a voice shouted from behind me.

Paying no mind, I kept walking.

"Hey, KID!!", the voice grew louder.

I turned around and gave the group a confused look.

"Are you talking to me?", I said.

"Yeah, I'm talkin' to you. C'mere, I wanna ask you somethin'.", the man responded in an accent that I hadn't been familiar with.

I walked up to the group and faced the man who had called me over.

"You look like you're a successful man. I'm guessing you know a lot about trading an' working the markets. That's great and all, but it's pretty time consuming. How would you like t' start making some real gold, so much that you could just sit back an' relax all day long ..?"   It sounded like it was exactly what I was looking for. I was tired of being in the markets all day long, and tired of making slightly above average gold. I wanted to have the best, most extravagent items that anyone had seen. I wanted to be one of those merchants that I used to look up to as a kid. Without hesitation, I replied:

"Yeah, I'm interested. What've you got in mind?"

The group began talking aloud amongst eachother. The one who had called me over then silenced all of them. It appeared as if he was the leader of their small congregation. He started talking to me about treasure hunting and briefed me on field. He explained to me what he believed to be the best steps to follow during a treasure hunt. After consuming all this information, I became extremely interested in this man's concept of treasure hunting. He told me that if I'd really like to start getting involved in the field that I should journey to Koguryo and seek out the Koguryo Merchant Guild. I thanked him, and was about to leave when he said,

  "Wait!"
"Before you go, you must remember to follow these rules when on a treasure hunt .."

He handed me a piece of paper that read,

--------------------------------------------------------------

"1. Will respect private property and do no treasure hunting
      without the owner's permission.

   2. Will find all excavations.

   3. Will appreciate and protect our heritage of natural
      resources, wildlife, and private property.

   4. Will use thoughtfullness, consideration, and courtesy at
      all times."

--------------------------------------------------------------

I thanked him once again and left. That night I packed my bags and in the morning I would head to Koguryo to pursue my new career in treasure hunting. When I arrived in Koguryo, I went to the library and began researching about the field. I had a few practice hunts and actually found some unique treasures, my favorite and most memorable being my beloved wakizashi. It was a light and sturdy long sword which was similar to a katana. After the discovery of my wakizashi, I became more serious about treasure hunting and sought out a teacher to enhance my learning and skill in the field.

Since my time spent in Koguryo, I have met many very nice people, most notably the members of the Merchant Guild of Koguryo. I spend most of my time in the marketplaces and around the guild as my circle is the place where I rise in the mornings and sleep in the evenings. Through my hard work and efforts, I have achieved the status of Head of the Tradesman Division within my guild. Although I have accomplished many things, I feel the greatest is my assistance to others. I had grown up poor with not much of anything and had to teach myself to live on my own. Thus, I do my best to share my success with anyone in need of a helping hand.

After a long while of hard work and dedication, I was ascended to a guide position in the Merchant guild. It is a great honor to be able to represent the guild in such a way, not to mention do something I love-- teach. As the winds have changed, so have my goals and expectations of myself. I have made well for myself during my stay in the guild and now strive to work my hardest to improve it. Whether it be through new ideas and events or improving trials for potential students, I try to aim for the long-run. Through my life as a Merchant, I have found that true wealth can be obtained only once one overcomes greed. Day after day, I continue to learn new things and do my best to aid others around me.
