The story and history if the name Tuathal (TOO uh hul)
Many families can be traced back to the blood line of the Tuathal, many leaders,
many peaceful folk who take it upon their own shoulders to show people a way to
better their lives originate from it’s bloodlines.
I can only trace back the bloodline to my father, Gregory Tuathal, a man was
born a poor farmer’s son who through hard work, honest trade, and a gentle
touch, was able to eventually rise to the title of Duke of his province in the
Sonhi kingdom. He was a gentle man noted for his ability to reason with people
and end many arguments without a fight. The lands he watched over were said to
be some of the most wonderful in the Sonhi kingdom. From what I can find there
are no mentions of corruption or wrongs done on the part of my father. What I am
able to find were sketchy references to when there was a war long ago with the
kingdoms of Buya and Kuguryo. The Sonhi Empire weakened and poor lashed out
within its own lands to fill its ranks and bolster its war chest with the gold
and treasures of the surrounding lands. They were taking the young of the lands
and forcing them into the armed services, taking all possessions worth anything
from all heads of state and all of their villages. My father, knowing he could
not stop this from happening, helped his pregnant wife and the people he watch
over flee from the Sonhi over to Han to live in a refugee camp until the war was
over. He took great care to make sure no family was left behind and no person
was left with nothing. On the road to the camp I can only find small details of
a skirmish between the Sonhi and Gregory’s group of refugees, he could not talk
them into letting his people across the border so he and a few of the men
charged the guards to provide a diversion so that the greater amount of his
people would make it to the camp. He fell to a blade defending the people he
loved and cared for. Most of them still remember him to this day.
The Tuathal family meaning: The word means two things, peaceful, and ruler of
the people.
The Tuathal family values: Many in the Tuathal line have risen through the ranks
of armies, clans, and subpaths of the kingdoms. They promote peace when they can
and often are the mediators between rival groups of people. They seek to better
themselves so that they may be in a better position to better their people, or
those who count on them.
Though not all Tuathal are directly in my bloodline, we all share a common bond
and a common goal.

What’s in a name?
Born in Han to a refugee of the Sonhi kingdom, I started my life in the poorest
of places. As a young boy I was very shy, I kept to myself, and did as my mother
instructed. Later that year a terrible sickness struck the refugee camps in Han,
my mother died within six months of contracting the illness. With no one left
and the sickness spreading I headed north towards the untamed lands of kuguryo
and buya. Little did I know what awaited me there..
Traveling the lands between the kingdoms I learned to only count on myself and
what I felt, honing my survival skills so that I could make something of my
life. When I found myself at the gates of Kuguryo I met a woman that changed my
life forever. This woman changed me from a street urchin to a modest, peaceful,
seeker of enlightenment. Her name was Greta. I talked to her long before I knew
who she was or what she did. Unknown to me were the simple truths, she was an
Elder, and she was kind. I saw in her eyes the intelligence and understanding I
used to know in my mother. From that day forward I was practically raised by my
mentor. I would meet with her after my daily studies as a Monk to ask her about
Koans and chat about life and its meaning.
As I grew wiser and stronger the kind woman took notice. Though I was a shy Monk
she saw much potential in me. So much in fact that I found the mantle of Elder
laid at my feet one day. I was overjoyed with the chance to remove some burden
off the shoulders of the one who had taught me so much.
The title of Elder changed me, for better or for worse I will not know until I
pass from this realm, but for now I will say it was for the better. I still have
those flaws within me that I learned so young, the need to do things alone, to
prove things to myself. Collecting of things, never selling, just holding and
hiding like a pack rat. Though I feel uncomfortable wearing anything I find, I
enjoy collecting things because they remind me of friends and family that used
to have them. Through this all I have come to realize the truth of my surname,
Tuathal (TOO uh hul) Which is Gaelic, my mother told me it was my fathers
surname, he died protected my pregnant mother, and I honor my father with it. My
name has two meanings which I feel fit to my legacy and my fate. First it means
peaceful, which I would like to think my father was, and the second means ‘ruler
of the people’ which I am told the name is linked to a line of rulers of a far
kingdom. I can only wonder where my blood heritage really came from.
These are the truths of my past, and the record of my name. I am my father’s
son, I am a Tuathal.
Devion Tuathal.
