This is a suggestion on what could be used for the monk quest that everyone can do as a subpath quest...
(The sentence begins with dash (( - )) will be the quest, the rest of each paragraph will be the background story. They can also be used to entails the story line.)
Legend mark: Walked the Pilgrimage of Monk Tang Sanzang
The story is mainly _base_d on the famous Chinese story, Journey to the West. It is a story about the monk Tang Sanzang (or his monk name Xuan Zang) risking his life to bring back to Buddhist _script_ures. There are different versions describing his Journey to the West, but we will stick to the original version for now.
Note: the actual event took place 600 years after our time The time of King Mhul(AD 18-44) and Tang San Zang (AD 602-664)
The quest begins with meeting a monk named Tang Sanzang, who is a devoted Buddhist. He has travel many different temples to learn more about Buddhism. However, it became hard for him to adjust to all these different versions of teaching he learned. So he made up his mind to retrieve the genuine Buddhist _script_ures in India. This is where our pilgrimage begins.
-Meeting Tang Sanzang, finding out what he wants to do and his obstacles.
According to the record, his application for travel paper to India was denied twice. Thus, he must sneak out of the country on his own. He traveled to Mongol (which can be the KaMing Encampment) and there he meet a person named Shi Pantuo.
-Traveling to KaMing Encampment, talking to Shi Pantuo, here could have something that needs to be hand in to hire Shi Pantuo as a guide/helper for Tang Sanzang.
Shi Pantuo aided Tang Sanzang travel across to the borderline, but he cannot stand the hardship traveling on foot and left. Before he went away, he point out where Tang San Zang can sneak out. Tang San Zang attempts to sneak out at night, but was caught by a guard who was a lay Buddhist. He learned what Tang Sanzang want to do, and let him go.
-Upon getting caught by the guard, must answer some questions about Buddhism (the guard is lay Buddhist, wish to learn more.) The questions could be anything that you can find from reading The Wandering Monk scroll.
Tang Sanzang entered the desert, for 3 days and 3 nights he walked. But he cannot walk out of this vast desert ((400 kilometer wide according to record)), he was hungry and thirsty. At the moment near death, he prayed to Buddha and a miracle happened.. an oasis appeared before him, his life was saved.
-Here, the quest will be finding the oasis for Tang San Zang and bring back what was needed, food and drink (so probably water jug and some foods).
After crossing the desert, Tang Sanzang entered the Kingdom of Gao Chang. The King of Gao Chang was very pleased to receive such reputable monk as Tang San Zang. The King wished Tang San Zang to stay in his country forever, but when Tang Sanzang turn down the offer, the King threw him into prison.
-The step here would be to recue Tang Sanzang from prison. Either finding smith to forge key or to fight the prison guard in order to free the monk.
After much hardship, Tang Sanzang finally reach India. But his journey is not complete until he travel to the heart of India, Lalantuo Temple. There he met the abbot of temple, JieXian. JieXian is the most wise and benevolent monk in India, also well respected by the King of India. But JieXian is not at peace due to an unknown illness and suffers from it greatly. He had a dream before Tang San Zang's arrival, three Bodhisattva visited him in the dream.
Wenshou Bodhisattva in color of Gold Guanyin Bodhisattva in color of Silver Puxian Bodhiisattva in color of Crystal
Puxian told JieXian that he must suffer as he is now, due to his previous life as a king, how many had died because of him. But he can redeem his sin and pain. There will be a monk from far East, and he must teach the monk.
The monk will then be able to spread the teaching of Buddha to the land in the far East. Tang San Zang spent 17 years devoting himself into study of Buddhism under many different teachers before he return to his home country.
-The final quest here would be meeting JieXian to finally retrieve the Buddhist _script_ure. The reason that I mentioned the dream of JieXian is to provide background story for the 3 routes that people can choose (meaning there will be 3 different _script_ures that people can obtain, but only can choose 1 of the 3 routes)
(the step is yet to be discussed, or it can be all the same like the one I suggested, except the items to be turn in would be different)
-Cleanse one-self and spread the teaching of Buddha. Mentoring at least three peple. Must find 3 items that represent ____ (here I think.. since it is 3 Bodhisattva, we can use the opposite of Three Pillars: Greed, Anger, and Ignorance)
-Route 1. Wenshou Bodhisattva in color of Gold (Giving) 100,000 coins, yellow amber, and ???? (need suggestion)
-Route 2. Guanyin Bodhisattva in color of Silver (Pure) Angel's tear, Stardrop, and White amber.
-Route 3. Puxian Bodhisattva in color of Crystal (Calm) Crystal, Amethyst, and Diamond
After completing, one will received Buddhist _script_ures. Then one must travel back to their kingdom and give the scrolls to their King /Princess by visiting the palace.
Upon completion one of the three _script_ures (depends on which route one choose to receive the following):
The _script_ure of Wenshou - gives the ability for invoke The _script_ure of Guanyin - gives the ability for karma reading The _script_ure of Puxian - gives the ability for portal/warp
and legend mark, "Walked the Pilgrimage of monk Tang Sanzang"
This is the rough outline for the story/quest, please let me know what you all think, thanks!
