Rise of the Dunedain

Journal entry 32, Yuri 57 Day 12

I entered the gates of Buya this morning. The people here
are kind, giving a quick hello as you pass by them. I'm not used
to this treatment, used to the custom of being looked down upon
or eyes never meeting my gaze out of pure fear.
Now, my search had begun, I made my way to a place to think.
Kugnae seemed like a quiet place as I made my way through the
gathering. Looking around quickly, I noticed a couple of people,
they were glaring at my wares... rings from the lands of Shilla and
a helm from it's forests. I got out of there as quick as I could,
seeking seclusion. Entering the outskirts of the Kingdom, to
Southern Koguryo, I noticed a dark entry way. Rain started falling,
kissing my forehead as I looked up. Making my way into this dark
place, I noticed the tombstones and small dreary housings.
I had entered the Koguryo Cemetary. Lightning struck a tree near
me, I ran into one of the crypts for cover. It seemed that someone
had been following me. As I noticed his shadow, reaching for his
blade, I quickly turned around and took him by surprise. His blade
thrown to the floor, I started my attack. Taking a dagger from the
confines of the holster on my ankle I stabbed him in the chest as,
he too, reached for his dagger. I noticed the emblem on his arm,
a small reminder to the danger I had gotten my self into... fleeing
from Shilla after learning of the death of my mother, Vesca
Shalmara.
I could not let these men find me. I needed to change my
name, remove any chance of being found once again. As I walked
around the crypt, a tombstone caught my eye. Blowing the dust
from the inscriptions, the decorations awed me. This man was
a past general of the Jinhan army, he sought refuge in Kugnae,
a land of peace, after losing his own son in the most recent war.
He had died during the 12th year of Yuri's reign. His medals were
laying across the bottom of the tombstone, all in some sort of
an alignment. I looked at the name quickly...

I took a small liking to this man. Never having a father myself,
I envied his son. He fought for his father, probably trying to
earn his respect and pride. Dying for someone you love, having
someone you love there until your last moments alive... that's
something. I decided I would use that name for an appropriate
cover. Halbarad Dunadan I would be, and I would make a name
for myself.

Journal entry 32, Yuri 57 Day 16

I travelled to the Library today. Being curious of the origin of
this name, I needed to find out. The librarian was an old curtious
man, he lead me to the scroll in a matter of moments. He seemed
to know the name Dunadan, and I think he respected me... he
knew my purpose.

Dunedain: Worthy of Honor

In an ancient elven tongue, before the times of Yuri, this name was
derived from these people. I think I like it.

Values:

The family is first and foremost. Blood is the priority
of the family. Fame and fortune will be left behind to
aid a family member, to take the heat for a family member.

Nature's balance is upheld by the Dunedain.
Walking the Ranger path is what helps us attain this goal.
Training in the skills of the rangers and using them to
uphold our values is what brings us joy and security.

Brotherhood, it all started with brotherhood.

Jinzounin, Michike, Camouflage, and Antimodes were with Halbarad
since his walking of the Ranger path. Together they all shared certain
interests.. growing closer as time passed by. Jinzounin was an honorable man, finding peace within himself, soon becoming more than a brother to the others. Michike is the logical one, honorable and not prejudice in any obvious way. His choices are based on logic and on feelings, his dedication to protecting the family and the balance is great. Camouflage stood amongst the Rangers for many years, never talking much until he met Halbarad and the others. Talking for many months, bonding, sharing common ground... they soon all grew closer. Antimodes studied with Halbarad, soon getting to know each and every one of the Dunedain he was welcomed with open arms into this sanctuary. Michike soon fell in love, months later being left with a little girl... Parlay, the newest of the Dunedain Rangers.

You don't need blood to be connected. There is something stronger than blood, the bond of the Dunedain family.
